Readings 1 & 3

The main difference between reading 1 and reading 3 is that the author of Reading 3, Jim Mullaney, looks at the relationships between data, information, knowledge and wisdom as Gene Bellinger, Durval Castro and Anthony Mills focus on the definitions and how knowledge is formatted and presented it in Reading 1. Jim talks about how knowledge is used in society and why we use knowledge management. He uses an example of a person purchasing a can of baked beans and how the price of the particular brand in which they usually bought increase and they went on to purchase a different brand, which was cheaper. This DATA of the purchases of the product is meaningless but when the data of what consumer’s are buying can build into INFORMATION that is powerful. When this INFORMATION is used for a strategy then it becomes KNOWLEDGE. Jim does not talk about how wisdom is involved. It is the understanding of the main idea.
